Development and resistance - two sides of the same coin

All organisations – private as well as public – are under constant pressure for change and development these years. Managements must therefore be able to plan and carry out constructive development processes.

But the demand for development often goes hand in hand with resistance. Change management must therefore include and deal with the psychological reaction on change.

The challenge for the modern manager is therefore: It is not resistance which slows down development, but the manager’s way of handling the resistance.

Target group

Managers, HR staff, consultants and others who work with change and development processes.

Objective

The overall objective with this workshop is to prepare the individual manager (or change agent) for performing constructive development processes within his or her own area as part of the management job.

Outcome

Theory: That the participants get to know about theory and experiences about resistance and development work at personal, group and organisational levels
Consciousness: That each participant becomes conscious about employees’ – and own – defence reactions and mechanisms
Skills: That the participants become able to include resistance as a natural part of any change and development initiative
Method: That the participants bring a number of concrete tools with them home for designing and carrying out development processes
